Hi, I'm Yiorgis an Archaeologist, and curator at the cultural network Androidus Project Tank (Social Cooperative Enterprise) & Argastiri Culture-Research-Innovation (KOINSEP).
Currently, I'm working as the scientific coordinator for the research program IDAology project (https://idaology.gr), in collaboration with the University of Crete, the Foundation for Technology and Research, and the digital cultural entity we created with my colleagues, the Androidus Project Tank. Our goal is to explore the life of shepherds in Psiloritis as it has evolved over millennia, creating a digital archive of stories, traditions, and an immersive digital environment akin to a journey through the mountain's space-time.
My archaeological focus has been on the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations and their connection to Eastern Mediterranean cultures, subjects that remain open questions for future scientists and researchers.
I pursued further studies in Cultural Organizations Management (Hellenic Open University), with my thesis focusing on art market dynamics and auctions, driven by my interest in connecting culture with contemporary life and the emerging prospects in the economy.
Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. (University of the Aegean, Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, supervised by Professor Gerasimos Pavlougeorgatos, in collaboration with Associate Professor V. Kyriakidis of the University of Kent, and Assistant Professor D. Katapotis) on issues of cultural planning and democracy, with a case study on the mountain communities of Psiloritis (developing new methodologies for cultural planning and mapping), aiming to understand the importance of culture as a timeless element of life quality and a connecting link among the structures that define the social, political, and economic dimensions of a region.
I reside in my birthplace and hometown, Anogeia, Crete, and currently work at the foothills of Psiloritis, establishing with my team a cultural network of companies including the digital cultural management company Androidus Project Tank (http://www.androidus.gr) and the Social Cooperative Enterprise Argastiri Culture-Innovation-Research.
Through our corporate and scientific endeavors, my collaborators and I create digital cultural experiences, studies, ethnographic documentaries, cultural meetings, and events, providing everyone with the opportunity to explore the mosaic of our written and unwritten history.
Our actions and designs involve collaborations with the Foundation for Technology and Research, the University of Crete, as well as Local Government Authorities. However, interaction with the local population constitutes an invaluable source of data that needs to be collected, recorded, and returned openly and accessible to the community (both globally and locally).
I deeply desire to understand the motives that offer qualitative enhancement to a society and how to build a common collective vision, studying the communities of Psiloritis as a unique cultural federation of the mountain.
I love traveling, goals, and motivations that can move mountains and disrupt daily routines, challenging the notion that "mountains produce people with nothing to do."
