The Birth and Evolution of TEDxAnogeia: A Journey of Collective Effort
Great events and grand experiments arise as a result of collective work and collective effort. In 2014, a group embarked on a journey to explore what the Highlands of the North Sea in Scotland might have in common with Anogeia in the Mediterranean South of Crete. Thus, TEDxAnogeia was born, initiated by people of diverse backgrounds, challenging conventions, loving innovation, cherishing their homeland, and believing that minds and parachutes work better when open.
In 2014, we began as a group, initiating a grand experiment based on the prompt "think locally, act globally." Thus, we found ourselves in the heart of Psiloritis, with George, Antonis, Aristeia, Vasilis, Kostas, and Phaedra, forming a grassroots network and a collective team from Switzerland to Agios Nikolaos, from Utrecht and the Highlands to Athens and Heraklion.
We formed a team of 150 volunteers, bringing TEDx to Anogeianos Plateau and Agios Yakinthos, not as another flag of a multinational corporation but as a bet grounded in the belief that we can and we can do it well. This belief brought to our organization speeches and presentations from Chile to the world of psychopathology, humanism, philosophy, memory enhancers, and digital addiction. All of these were connected by the sense of the summit, the prompt to light your way up, to conquer it, or to be conquered by it.
The 2015 event had all the characteristics to continue, to become a permanent flag on the TED Atlas. The temptation was great, but with our initial meeting of reflection at the pirate refuge of Plakia in September 2015, we decided to continue with our quirky personality and frequency through the Cave of Ideas of Androidus and the Return to the Mountains of Epimenides.
